Come down to The Square saturday August, 13th
and watch Chefs Karl McKim and David Howard duke it out farmer’s market style!  Inspired by the popular show Iron Chef,our guys will compete against La Costa’s finest in a culinary battle royale.  They have one hour to prepare a three course meal using ingredients shopped for just moments before.   After judging and announcing the winner, the plates will be raffled off to lucky audience members!!  Don’t miss this chance to see ( and taste ) true genius in action!

“I make art because I like to PLAY!  I like to have a space in my life where I can create like I see kids creating:  playing, experimenting and exploring with a sense of wonder and without judgement.  I am inspired by nature, music, mythology and words.  Before painting I take a few minutes to write in a stream of consciousness and then I pick out words and phrases that jump out at me.  I use that as a starting point.  I tend to work very quickly, preferring to use my hands and found objects like bubble wrap, cards, and pine cones to apply color and create texture on the canvas.  My favorite material to use in my artwork is glitter.  I love how the changing light dances with glitter, creating movement and a feeling tha the painting is ”plugged in”’.  -Jessica Payne

Amanda McCall is a visual artist based out of Knoxville, Tennessee. She received her BFA in Printmaking and Art History from the University of Tennessee and has since become an artist for Fireproof Gallery in Knoxville.
